Packaging recommendations for enhanced product performance
Cynthia Riddle (PI), Conestoga Food Research & Innovation Lab
Dough Parlour, known for its scented playdough, faced challenges with the product drying out over its shelf-life, an issue identified in previous projects. They sought support for alternative packaging solutions to maintain product quality. Their current packaging, a screw-top lid, often loosened over time, and the playdough was filled while warm, with the existing security band failing to provide an effective barrier.
CFRIL assisted Dough Parlour by recommending packaging solutions aimed at enhancing product performance throughout its shelf-life. The focus was on finding packaging that would minimize drying before the consumer opened the container. The proposed solutions are needed to accommodate the current product weight and consider sustainability by reducing plastic usage.
