About Planit Measuring
Planit Measuring specializes in measuring and laser scanning buildings to create architectural assets such as building information models (BIMs). The company develops technologies that help capture, process, and visualize building data more efficiently.
The challenge
Building information modeling workflows often require multiple steps to transform captured building data into usable digital models. Planit Measuring sought to improve how field data is visualized, coordinated, and shared with remote experts while streamlining the process of creating BIMs.
Approach
- Partnered with Conestoga’s SMART Centre to investigate mixed reality solutions
- Evaluated and selected Microsoft HoloLens technology for integration
- Connected HoloLens capabilities with proprietary building measurement software
- Explored methods to automate portions of the scan-to-BIM workflow
- Enhanced collaboration between field technicians and off-site experts through real-time visualization
Results
- Successfully integrated HoloLens technology into the company’s workflow
- Improved visualization of building data in a three-dimensional environment
- Streamlined the process of creating building information models
- Enhanced communication and collaboration between field and remote teams
- Reduced workflow complexity by enabling direct interaction with building elements during data capture
Why it matters
- Improves efficiency in building measurement and modeling processes
- Enhances collaboration between on-site and remote experts
- Demonstrates the value of mixed reality technologies in the construction and engineering sectors
- Supports the creation of more accurate and detailed digital building models
- Advances innovation in digital construction and building information management
