About Food Cycle Sciences
Food Cycle Science is a Canadian company focused on food waste diversion, offering compact FoodCycler units that convert food waste into reusable byproducts.
The challenge
Food Cycle Science required a packaging solution for its enzyme-based system that would be durable during storage and transportation, while aligning with its sustainability goals and supporting a subscription-based delivery model.
Approach
- Conestoga evaluated materials, design, and processing considerations for a biodegradable pouch system
- Developed and tested multiple prototypes, assessing performance under a range of environmental and handling conditions
- Designed supporting packaging and facilitated knowledge transfer to manufacturing partners
Results
- Delivered a validated pouch and packaging system supported by performance and shelf-life data
- Confirmed the solution could withstand transportation and storage conditions while maintaining product integrity
- Consolidated findings into a final report to guide commercialization and manufacturing
Why it matters
This work provides Food Cycle Science with a practical, sustainable packaging solution that supports product launch and future scale-up. It also strengthens their ability to deliver a reliable, subscription-based offering while advancing food waste reduction efforts.
