Supporting product development and commercialization for Terra Bioindustries
Tracy Butt and Nicole Detlor, Conestoga Food Research & Innovation Lab
Terra Bioindustries, an Elmira-based food upcycling company, partnered with the Conestoga Food Research & Innovation Lab to support the development of technical specifications and prototype formulations for one of their flagship ingredients, Recyclose. The goal was to help showcase its potential in a variety of food applications and provide technical materials to support future business development.
Several product concepts were developed using Recyclose as a sweetener, demonstrating its versatility in formats such as beverages, bakery, sauces, and fruit spreads. The ingredient properties allowed for easy incorporation across categories, and its potential as a natural colour alternative opened new opportunities for collaboration. Shelf-life testing confirmed product stability, an essential consideration for commercialization.
With a complete set of technical specification sheets and proof-of-concept applications, Terra Bioindustries is now well positioned to engage with potential customers and industry partners. This work strengthens their value proposition and supports their ongoing mission to transform agri-food waste into high-impact ingredients.
