Akrem El-Ghazal is a professor in the School of Applied Computer Science & Information Technology at Conestoga. He has over 10 years of industry experience, specializing in machine learning, big data engineering, and mobile application development.
Before joining Conestoga, Akrem worked at various software technology companies, leading innovative projects in machine learning, big data, software engineering, and mobile solutions. His expertise spans AI-driven applications, software design, and project management.
He holds a PhD in pattern analysis and machine intelligence from the University of Waterloo, where he was a member of the Centre for Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence. Akrem also holds a M.Sc. in digital image processing/computer vision (with honors) and a B.Sc., both from the University of Benghazi.
Throughout his career, Akrem has been actively involved in applied research, contributing to multiple patents and scholarly publications. His research focuses on machine learning applications, software engineering, and context-based mobility analysis. He holds several issued and pending patents, including innovations in smartphone orientation calibration and mobility recognition.
Akrem is passionate about bridging the gap between industry and academia by integrating real-world machine learning and software engineering challenges into his teaching. He enjoys mentoring students and equipping them with practical skills to excel in the ever-evolving tech industry.
