So-Ra Chung, PhD, P.Eng.
Professor
So-Ra Chung is a professor in the School of Engineering and Technology at Conestoga College, where she also serves as the coordinator for the cyber systems engineering program. She has extensive experience in systems design engineering, embedded systems development, and Industry 4.0 solutions.
Before joining Conestoga College, Chung worked as a systems engineer at MDA Space Mission, contributing to the International Space Station program, and as an RF engineer at Hyundai Electronics Industries Co. Ltd., specializing in space communications. She holds a PhD in systems design engineering, a master of engineering science in electrical and computer engineering, and a bachelor of engineering science in electrical and computer engineering. She has been a licensed professional engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario since 2004 and is an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
As a researcher at the SMART Centre, Chung leads applied research projects in IoT embedded systems, micro-electromechanical systems modulation, and antenna polarization for meteor burst communications. She has presented her research at industry symposia and published scholarly work on MEMS-based analogue demodulation and micromirror design in stacked configurations.
Chung is passionate about fostering creativity and innovation through project-based learning, model-based systems engineering, and sustainable design practices. She actively supports outreach programs for STEM education and women in engineering, promoting design justice based on circular economics and the Sustainable Development Goals.
