This project explores how greywater recycling systems can be adapted for use in commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings across Ontario. While greywater reuse is gaining attention in residential settings, its potential beyond the home remains largely untapped due to regulatory and economic uncertainties. By examining international case studies, local infrastructure, and stakeholder needs, the research aimed to identify scalable solutions that support sustainability and water conservation.

The team conducted a comprehensive evaluation of existing technologies, potential building applications, and gaps in Ontario’s regulatory framework. Key recommendations included piloting modular greywater systems on college campuses and commercial sites, increasing public awareness, and engaging policymakers to establish clearer standards that reduce barriers to adoption.

The findings support long-term goals to make greywater reuse a more mainstream practice in Ontario. With benefits that include reduced potable water demand, lower utility costs, and stronger climate resilience, the research provides a practical roadmap for institutions and developers looking to lead in sustainable building practices.
