Advanced Recycling Technologies Lab

What we offer

The Advanced Recycling Technologies Lab (ARTLab) is dedicated to advancing sustainable e-waste processing and material recovery. The lab’s shredding line, provided by ShredTech, is engineered to break down e-waste and sort materials into ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, and plastics, creating a streamlined pathway for recycling complex electronic components.

This facility also features a network of advanced delta robots equipped for pre-sorting, selectively removing components that are unsuitable for shredding, ensuring safety and protecting equipment integrity. Downstream, additional robots utilize hyperspectral cameras to accurately identify and categorize various plastic types, enabling precise separation and high-purity material recovery.

  • Automation test bed: Providing a platform for testing various sorting, picking, and vision applications, including plastics, color, and metal differentiation, to address automation challenges in recycling processes.
  • Autonomous intelligent vehicles (AIVS): Utilizing AIVS for research on the autonomous movement of materials within industrial and warehouse environments, serving as a test bed for use case validation. 
  • Collaborative robots: Supporting research into the integration and application of collaborative robots in industrial and warehouse settings, and validation of use cases. 
  • Camera technologies for material classification: Implementing high-speed spectral camera technologies for precise material classification in applications such as recycling, food grading, and quality assurance.
