Training and educational resources
CHCRI has developed the following online training and educational resources that explore how the interprofessional team supports individuals and their care partners with their health experiences.
The resources integrate inclusive and accessible approaches and include interactive features to support a positive and engaging learning experience.
Virtual simulations with a focus on an interprofessional approach
We have built the following four virtual simulations, funded by eCampus Ontario, that explore an interprofessional approach to situations that care providers may experience in long-term care and community settings.
Learners are encouraged to navigate through the simulations and select the best options in response to the questions.
In addition to their professional role, learners can choose to navigate through the simulation in any of the professional roles included: personal support worker, nurse, and paramedic roles.
A Palliative Approach with Mr. and Mrs. Blejnar
A Palliative Approach with Mr. and Mrs. Blejnar, funded by eCampus Ontario, explores the importance of supporting a person living with a life-limiting illness through a palliative approach to care according to the person's wishes, values and goals.
Mr. Lowell's Experience with Living with Heart Failure
Mr. Lowell’s Experience with Living with Heart Failure, funded by eCampus Ontario, explores the importance of an interprofessional approach when supporting a person living with heart failure in the community; Mr. Lowell experiences heart failure exacerbation which leads to a transfer to hospital for further assessment and treatment to address his condition. This simulation is available in English and French.
Responding to Lucy Anderson’s Fall
Responding to Lucy Anderson’s Fall, funded by eCampus Ontario, explores the importance of an interprofessional approach when supporting a resident who has experienced a fall in a long-term care setting.
Supporting Mr. Santos with a Safe Transfer
Supporting Mr. Santos with a Safe Transfer, funded by eCampus Ontario, explores how care providers can assist a person to safely transfer from a bed to a wheelchair and from a bed to a stretcher while exploring how various considerations, such as sensory, age-related, and cognitive changes, may affect the person's ability to transfer safely.
Virtual simulations with a focus on a nursing perspective
We have built the following four virtual simulations that explore situations that care providers may experience in long-term care and community settings from a nursing perspective. Learners are encouraged to navigate through the simulations and select the best options in response to the questions.
The first two simulations are funded by Colleges and Institutes Canada.
The last two simulations were developed as part of the Ontario Government’s Nursing Program Transformation in Ontario’s Colleges Initiative that explore possible experiences of people and their care partners as they move into, and live, in long-term care, from a nursing perspective.
A Fall in a Long-Term Care Home
A Fall in a Long-Term Care Home explores a falls assessment and approach to support a resident who has had a fall experience in a long-term care setting. This simulation is available in English and French.
Home Care Visit
The Home Care Visit virtual simulation explores a nursing perspective and approach to a situation of possible elder abuse and/or neglect in the community. This simulation is available in English and French.
Sexual Orientation and Sexuality
Sexual Orientation and Sexuality explores the importance of inclusive environments and approaches when supporting people and their care partners, including those who identify with the 2SLGBTQI+ community. Learners can observe, assess, explore, and reflect on how approaches and components of the environment can be modified to foster an inclusive, positive and welcoming space for everyone. This simulation is available in English and French.
Polypharmacy
Polypharmacy explores the impact of a senior person who takes several medications at the same time to address several health conditions that they are living with and how the care team supports them with their care, including medication-related concerns. This simulation is available in English and French.
